In their path-breaking book, Governance as Leadership: Reframing the Work of Nonprofit Boards, Richard Chait, William Ryan and Barbara Taylor invited us to expand our understanding of the work of nonprofit boards beyond their fiduciary role. They articulated 3 “types” of governance – fiduciary, strategic and generative – asserting that effective board governance requires engagement in all 3 arenas.
In this workshop we will review the 3 models described by Chait et al. and consider how we can move our boards beyond fiduciary and strategic to the work of generative “sense-making.”

Instructor: Pamela Leland, PhD, DANA’s Chief Learning Officer will facilitate this workshop. Dr. Leland brings more than 30 experience in consulting, teaching and executive leadership to her role with DANA.
